In accordance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), 40 CFR Part 763, Niles Community Schools has developed and maintains an Asbestos Management Plan for each school building in the district. This annual notification is provided to parents, guardians, students, employees, and the general public.

Inspections and Re-Inspections

Each district building has been inspected for the presence of asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM) by an EPA-accredited inspector. Comprehensive re-inspections are conducted every three years, and surveillance activities to monitor the condition of any known or assumed ACBM are performed every six months by trained district personnel.

Asbestos Management Plan

A complete copy of the Asbestos Management Plan for each building is maintained at the district administrative office and at the individual school site. These plans document the location of any asbestos-containing materials, the results of all inspections and re-inspections, response actions taken, and planned future activities.

The Management Plan is available for review by parents, guardians, employees, students, and the public during normal business hours. Copies may be requested at a reasonable cost for reproduction.

Response Actions

Niles Community Schools is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors. Any required response actions—including repair, removal, encapsulation, or operations and maintenance activities—are conducted in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Only properly trained and accredited personnel perform work involving asbestos-containing materials.
